Apateon
The ultimate digital party game of social deduction, bluffing, and hilarious accusations. Designed for in-person gatherings, it modernizes classics like Mafia and Werewolf with a single-phone, pass-and-play experience.
The problem
Social deduction games like Mafia or Werewolf are great in person, until someone has to deal cards, remember secret roles and keep score instead of playing.
What we built
Apateon puts the game master on one phone that gets passed around a group of four to eight players. The app hands out secret roles and keeps score, so the group can focus on interrogating each other.
What it does
- Weird Facts: everyone sees an obscure true fact except the Impostor, who must improvise
- Topics: the Impostor has to guess the group's theme without getting caught
- Seeker: one truth-teller, one seeker and a room full of liars
- Pass-and-play for 4 to 8 players
Engineering decisions
- Pass-and-play on a single device, so a game starts in seconds without accounts, invites or everyone installing an app.
- Built with React Native and TypeScript and published on both stores; version 1.0.1 added new games after launch.
